How does the Stackers system work? Layers, lids and sets explained
You've heard about Stackers, you're impressed by the system — but how does it actually work? Which layers fit which box? Do you have to buy everything at once? And what is the difference between a layer and a lid? In this article, we explain the Stackers system step by step, so you can put together your perfect jewellery box with confidence.
The basic principle: stacking to suit you
The Stackers system is built on one simple but brilliant idea: you build your jewellery box layer by layer, exactly as your jewellery collection requires. You start with one layer, add a lid, and expand whenever you like. No fixed set that forces you to buy everything at once — you decide the pace and the composition.
The three sizes: Mini, Classic and XL
Stackers is available in three sizes — Mini, Classic and XL. This is the most important thing to understand before you begin:
- Mini — the smallest size, ideal for a compact jewellery collection or on a bedside table
- Classic — the most popular size, the perfect balance between space and dimensions
- XL — the largest size, for the true jewellery lover with an extensive collection

The golden rule: layers are not universal
This is the point that confuses most people — and it is crucial to understand. Layers are only compatible within the same size:
- Mini layers fit only on Mini boxes
- Classic layers fit only on Classic boxes
- XL layers fit only on XL boxes
You cannot place a Classic layer on a Mini box, and vice versa. So choose your size carefully first — that is the foundation of your entire collection. Fortunately, within the same size you can combine and add layers without any limit.
What is the difference between a layer and a lid?
A Stackers jewellery box consists of two types of components:
- Layers — the open trays with compartments for your jewellery. These are the actual storage layers that you stack on top of each other. Each layer is specialised: there are layers for rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets and watches.
- Lid — the closing top of your jewellery box. A lid completes your stack, protects your jewellery from dust and gives your box a neat, finished look. Without a lid you have an open stack of layers — with a lid you have a complete jewellery box.
A typical Stackers set therefore consists of: one or more layers + one lid = a complete jewellery box.
Which layers are available?
Within each size, various specialised layers are available, each designed for a specific type of jewellery:
- Ring layer — with a roll for rings, ideal for storing them neatly without scratches
- Earring and accessory layer — with small compartments for earrings, cufflinks and small accessories
- Necklace layer — with hooks or a special compartment to store necklaces tangle-free
- Bracelet and watch layer — larger compartments for wider pieces such as bracelets and watches
- Trinket layer — a versatile layer with larger open compartments for mixed jewellery and accessories

You don't have to buy everything at once
This is one of the greatest advantages of the Stackers system — and at the same time something many people don't think about. You start small and build further whenever you like.
A typical way to get started:
- Step 1 → Buy a 2-set or 3-set as your starting point
- Step 2 → Use your box and discover which extra layers you need
- Step 3 → Add an extra layer later for rings, necklaces or bracelets
- Step 4 → Expand further as your jewellery collection grows
Many Mystackers customers start with a lid as a gift and build from there. Others begin with a complete 5-set and are ready straight away. Both approaches are perfect — the system adapts to you.
Can layers of different colours be combined?
Yes, absolutely! You are free to combine layers of different colours within the same size. Some people opt for a completely uniform look in one colour, while others deliberately combine two colours for a personal touch. The Stackers system gives you complete freedom in that choice.
Practical example: how do you put together a Classic jewellery box?
Imagine: you have bought a Classic 3-set in Taupe. Your box then consists of two layers and one lid. After a while you notice that you have more and more necklaces. You simply buy a Classic necklace layer in Taupe to add — it fits perfectly on your existing box. You set the lid aside for a moment, place the new layer on top of your existing layers, and put the lid back on. Done.
This way your jewellery box grows with your jewellery collection — without ever having to start over.
